Fall Frolic

Just some fun pics of the boys playing in some newly fallen leaves one warm October afternoon. Not quite enough there to be jumping in--though Josh did try, and ended up hurting his tushy.

Carving Jack

Last weekend we performed surgery on Jack. Look at Ben's face in the first pic. He took one look inside and said, and this is a direct quote, "I'm not putting my hand in there!" Now look at Josh. He loves to play with the guts.

Here's Jack!

Trunk-N-Treat

Josh is Optimus Prime and Ben is IronMan. They were soooo ready for this. Josh talked about it for days before. I added the pic of the "trunk" just 'cause I thought it was neat. The pic of the robot costume 'cause Josh thought it was neat.

Wow! Look at those bags! They aren't even really that full, but Ben was complaining (when isn't he?!) that it was too heavy. Those are two happy boys with their loot! :D

Fall/Halloween Decorations

Just some simple-and cheap-decorations. The faces on the small pum'kins were chosen by the boys. Can you guess who's is who's? Which child is the happy one, and which is...well, not?! I think that both turned out cute. And did you notice the ghosts on the porch rail? Just plain white milk jugs with battery-operated color changing lights inside.

Pum'kin Patch

These pics were taken earlier this month on our quest for the Great Pumpkin. We started at Lyda's Farm, where they had the cool caterpillar. We let the boys pick out a couple of small pumpkins to call their own. Then we headed to Grandad's Apples and Such. They had goats and a llama, and a small bluegrass band playing. And some cute props for pics. Though I had wanted a fairly big pumpkin, I couldn't find one to my liking--I guess the crops might've been hurt by the drought--so I settled for a medium-sized one.
We also got some pumpkin bread there that was amazingly good! Yum!

We had a scare this afternoon. I had Josh and Ben's sports bottles sitting on the counter, pushed back to the wall, filled with water and a little bleach to clean the kool-aid build up out. Josh, in his impatience to wait for Daddy to get him something to drink, grabbed his bottle, and took a swig. Then he started to groan in pain, and at about the same time Daddy realized what had happened. I checked the bleach jug, while Daddy called poison control. We gave him water, and he belched several times, even spit up a little. Josh was scared, even thought he might die. We reassured him that he wasn't going to die, that he would be fine in a hour or so. Needless to say, he is fine now. He ate his lunch, but didn't want anything to drink for some time. Poor guy. I think he'll wait and ask now. And I have to find a different place to set their bottles when I'm soaking them! Especially since Josh is tall enough to reach to the back of the counter.

Well, my little boy is definitely growing up. Today was his first day of Kindergarten. For the weeks and months leading up to this day, Josh had mixed feelings about it: he'd be excited for a little while, then he'd say he didn't want to go to school. But after going to meet his teacher and see his classroom last Friday, he was READY. He couldn't wait. Myself, on the other hand, have been looking forward to this day, with some reserve, for quite some time. (I'm ready for a little bit of quiet around the house! LOL!) Yes, I did cry. Not because my sweet boy was leaving me, but because of pride, pride that he was about to embark on an adventure all on his own. I was scared for him for all the unknowns that he'll have to face. But I tried not to let him see my fear.
When he got off the bus, he was so thrilled at riding the bus home, he smiled from ear to ear! He had evidentally had such a fun, full of excitement day, he just couldn't remember what all he had done. I was so excited for him. And yet glad that he was home again. And Ben? Well, he must've been lost. I don't think he's ever been as quiet as he was today. Yes, Ben, quiet. Those words aren't usually used in the same sentence! I asked him, and he did say that he missed his brother. We all did. It has been a day of change and newness for all of us.

We had three baby bunnies in our veggie garden. We had seen a rabbit around the yard for a few weeks before I had found the babies tucked away in the mulch. They grew sooo fast....after a few short weeks, we found their burrow empty, and one of them hiding under the cucumber leaves. They had their pick of the garden! LOL! They were so adorable.
