As we walked through the door, and even before I could see Josh, I could hear him squeal, "Mommy!" He was so happy to see us.... As the kids sang, "Monkeys and the Alligator," Ben smiled because he knew this song--Josh had just taught him the night before. But he wouldn't sing along....

We are so very proud of Josh. His teacher, Ms. Case, had a lot of praise for Josh, and said she enjoyed working with him, that he was a pleasure to teach. Way to go, Josh!

Sunday afternoon at the Park

A lively game of tag. Look closely, and you see Josh looking down as Daddy and Ben are trying to find him. My little monkey....

And what little boy could ever resist playing in the sand? ;)

We're "empty-nesters"

5/29, Feeding time....

5/29, hungry babies....

6/2, getting some feathers, eyes still closed....
6/4, more feathers, turning brown, eyes open....

6/6, eyes WIDE open, ready to fly! And they're very noisy! We can hear them from inside the house, with the TV on! "Mom" & "Dad" are also noisy, calling to them almost constantly, as if to say, "Come out, come out!" 6/8, and they're gone. Bye-bye birdie.

THE BABIES ARE HERE!

We have tiny, baby birds! We've been watching the mommy and/or daddy birds go in and out of the nest continuously for the last several days. So this morning, I ever-so-carefully took the lid off the pot, and peered inside, and saw these strange, hairless little things wiggling about. I quickly took my pictures, and returned the lid to the pot because I saw one of the parents fly up to the porch, and then I heard the warning chatter, so it was time for me to go. (BTW, the pictures that I posted last week were from three weeks ago.)

Calla-pillars

I think one of the boys' favorite things about spring is the caterpillars. As soon as the weather turned warm, Josh started asking about them. He and Ben were taken with all the caterpillars we had last year--they were everywhere! But there didn't seem to be as many this year, and we had to look hard to find them. But find them, they did. They love to let them crawl up their arms and all over their hands. It takes me back to my childhood, just watching the simple wonder of nature at work in my children's eyes.

Bird Babies

We had a couple of wrens that were persistent in building a nest in our hanging tomato planters. I would chase them out of one and they would come back to another. So I took all the lids off of the planters, and put them over an empty pot. Sure enough, within an hour, they were busy filling it with leaves and twigs. It's kinda hard to tell male apart from female. I know with other birds, the males are the more brilliant. But the wrens look the same to me. I did notice one looked a little fatter than the other. And I thought that it was the male that built the nest. But these two proved that theory wrong.

At first, we found only one egg in the nest. Then, in a couple of days, we found three. Another day or two later, and there was five! Busy little birds!

As of this posting, we still have (5) eggs...no babies yet!
